LOCK-TEC
were asked to provide a secure locking solution for a well
used door at a local transport maintenance garage. The following
pictures illustrate a slide show of the installation from
start to finish. Our 2000 series Codelock offered just the
right level of security and convenience for the customer.
|
|
Step 1 - The door as we found it. Well used, failing
existing locking and in need of a secure solution
to allow workers to enter the building using coded
access.
|
|
Step 2 - LOCK-TEC
carry a wide range of digital locks and the 2000 series
Codelock is ideal for the application. The door is
marked up for drilling using the template supplied
with the lock.
|
|
Step 3 - Once the door is marked up, it can then
be drilled in line with the template. Care is taken
over this part of the installation as the vast majority
of problems that people could potentially experience
with a digital lock are mainly due to mis-alignment
of fixing holes at the installation stage.
|

|
Step 4 - Holes are drilled through the door and also
on the door leading edge so that the latch of the
digital lock can be fitted in place.
|

|
Step 5 - The latch has a faceplate and the edge of
the door is chiseled so that the faceplate can lie
flush with the door edge. If the faceplate was left
protruding then the plate would catch against the
door frame and score the frame.
|

|
Step 6 - The latch is fitted into place. The latch
is the first part of the lock to be fitted as the
lock has a spindle that passes through the latch to
operate it.
|

|
Step 7 - The Codelock can now be fixed to the door,
at this point the lock is put into place and a cable
is passed through a drilled hole in the door which
connects to an internal battery pack that will power
the lock. The spindle is also passed through the latch.
|

|
Step 8 - The internal backplate is fixed into place.
The plate houses the battery pack and also contains
the internal knob activator for exiting the door.
The Codelock has "bolt through" fixings
which allows the external keypad to be fixed from
the rear, this enhances the security of the lock as
no fixings are shown on the external side of the door.
|

|
Step 9 - The battery pack is installed and connected
to the cable passing through the door. The pack will
allow for many thousands of operations of this lock
before they need to be replaced.
|

|
Step 10- Finally, the door frame is prepared with
a strike plate where the latch will locate once the
door is closed. The strike plate ensures that the
door closes smoothly and it also protects the wooden
frame from damage.
|

|
Step 10 - The lock is now installed and ready for
operation. This digital lock is electronically operated
and can have 90 different access codes programmed
into it. All programming is done via a master code
at the keypad and the unit also has a key override
function to allow emergency access through the door
or to set the lock into a free passage mode where
no codes are required to pass through the door.
|

|
Step 12 - The lock looks good both on the outside
and the inside. The installation time was under an
hour and the client is more than satisfied with the
solution. LOCK-TEC
always ensures that the right solution is offered
and we only ever install our locks to the highest
standards.
